We built the garden companion
we wished we had.
AskBloomer was born from a simple frustration: good gardening advice exists, but it’s rarely in the right place at the right time. We set out to fix that.
Started in Ottawa.
Growing across Canada.
J&S Calendars Ltd has spent years building community platforms for gardeners across Canada — connecting growers with events, societies, and local horticultural knowledge. Along the way, we noticed something: the information gardeners needed most wasn’t missing. It was just badly timed.
A gardener in Ottawa who googles “when to start tomatoes indoors” gets generic advice written for no one in particular. They need to know what to do this week, in their zone, given the frost dates and weather patterns specific to eastern Ontario. AskBloomer was built to deliver exactly that — personalised, timely, locally calibrated care advice, without requiring the gardener to become an expert first.
We started in Ottawa because that’s where we know the soil, the seasons, and the growers. We’re expanding from there, one region at a time, adding local expert knowledge as we go.
Good gardening advice should be
specific, timely, and honest.
Timing is everything
The right advice at the wrong time is useless. Every reminder is calibrated to the current week, your hardiness zone, and what the weather is actually doing.
Local beats generic
Ottawa gardening is not Phoenix gardening. We build region-specific knowledge into every reminder, starting with the crop calendars and expertise of local growers.
Every source credited
When a reminder draws on a knowledge article or crop calendar from one of our partners, that source is named and linked. We don’t pass off others’ expertise as our own.
Simple and honest
No dark patterns, no manufactured urgency, no hidden costs. One plant is free forever. Upgrade when your garden grows. Cancel anytime. That’s the whole deal.
Gardens deserve confidence
The anxiety of not knowing whether you’re doing the right thing at the right time is the enemy of a good garden. AskBloomer is designed to replace that anxiety with confidence.
Always learning
Every reminder includes something new about one of your plants — its history, its ecology, a nuance most people don’t know. A garden you understand is a garden you love more.
Local knowledge,
properly credited.
AskBloomer draws on the expertise of horticultural societies, nurseries, and botanical gardens in the regions we serve. Every piece of knowledge we use is attributed to its source in the reminder itself. We’re building this network carefully, one trusted partner at a time.
